How do the two education systems compare to the education of NZ students?
In Ancient Sparta, the main focus was to produce an army. In Ancient Athens, the main focus was to give their sons a well rounded academic, musical, and physical education. What is the aim in modern day New Zealand?
In modern day NZ, students aren't taken away from their parents to a military camp at age seven. Children don't have to learn to fight and aren't encouraged to steal. On the whole. NZ's education is ore similar to Ancient Greece's than Ancient Sparta's. In NZ, students learn about a wide range of subjects- Maths, English, History, Art... and they can choose additional subjects to take at high school to be able to pursue their own choice of career.
Education in NZ, however, leaves more room for the students' own choice rather than the education system in Athens, and all girls go to school, but parents also have the opportunity to home school their children.
I think that on the whole modern day NZ's education is fuller and ore rounded than that of both Ancient Sparta and Ancient Athens, as it is not solely focused on warfare, and nor is it only for the boys and dictated by the teachers.

Why is there a difference?
Society in Ancient Greece was very different to society in modern day New Zealand. The education systems of Ancient Sparta and Ancient Athens reflected their unique societies, as does New Zealand's education system.
There is a big difference in the time era and the government systems, and also the aims of education in NZ compared to Ancient Greece. Because of this, education in NZ today is completely different to that of Sparta and Athens.
Society in New Zealand does not require every man to serve in the military and does not require every woman to stay at home and educate her daughters. In New Zealand, everyone has the chance to work and women are allowed to vote. Education in New Zealand reflects the country's society and everyday life so that children can grow up to be able to survive in modern day New Zealand, and education in Ancient Athens and Sparta reflects each of their societies so that their children can also survive in their own societies.
